The Xunzi (Master Xun), ascribed to Xun Qing 荀卿 (335 – 238 B.C.) ofZhao趙and his disciples, is one of the most extensive and critical works oftheConfuciantradition. However, some later scholars claimed that its doctrinewasn’tcompatible tothe general doctrine of Confucianism so that it later came to beconsideredunorthodox.Among Xunzi‘s disciples there were famous thinkers andpoliticians such asHan Fei 韓非(280 – 233 B.C.) and Li Si 李斯 (280 – 208 B.C.), and theShiji 史記 venerates himas one ofthe greatest teachers of all time.
